Mamma Mia! ABBA Enter Rock Music Hall of Fame
| Mamma Mia! received a surprise endorsement last month as pop stars ABBA were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The honour stirred up some controversy, with the band better known for upbeat pop songs and disco anthems than distorted guitars and thunderous drumbeats. ABBA's singer-songwriter Benny Andersson and vocalist Anni-Frid Prinzessin Reuss appeared at the black-tie event at New York's Waldorf Astoria hotel. Andersson, playing the piano, performed their 1980 hit, "The Winner Takes It All" accompanied by U.S. singer Faith Hill. |

If Not Rock and Roll, then Simply Great MusicDavid Weier, vice president of programming and talent for Fuse, the corporation which broadcast the live induction, said: “I don’t know why they wouldn’t be inducted. These are artists that have a significant body of work. ... Rock is such a thin term these days. We should be looking at music in general — great music.”ABBA certainly has a following to rival the biggest Rock and Roll bands. The group have sold more than 375 million albums worldwide, bettered only by The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. Their musical influence shines through to this day in the style of artists such as Lady Gaga. |
