Matilda the Musical The cast of the West End transfer of Matilda the Musical has been announced, with many of the show’s original actors reprising their roles from Stratford-upon-Avon. Further casting includes Matthew Clark, Leanne Pinder, Rachel Moran, Lucy Thatcher, Tim Walton and Gary Watson.

Adapted for Stage by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly

Roald Dahl’s hilarious children's novel has been adapted for stage with music and lyrics by the Australian comedian Tim Minchin and a book by playwright Dennis Kelly. Her parents think she is a nuisance, and she thinks, quite rightly, that they are only interested in watching TV. Her mother would rather go ballroom dancing than spend time with her daughter; whilst her father gloats endlessly about his latest dodgy deal down at the garage. Life is not much better at school where the monstrous headmistress Miss Trunchbull punishes the children with sadistic relish. Then, one day, Matilda discovers she has a very special power, and decides it's time to get her own back and teach the grownups a lesson!

Previews Begin in October 2011

Matilda the Musical opens at the Cambridge Theatre on Tuesday 22nd November 2011 (previews begin on Tuesday 18th October 2011). The musical played a sell-out season last Christmas at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The four young actresses who will alternate the role of 'Matilda' in the West End will be announced on 'Roald Dahl Day' on Tuesday 13th September 2011.
