Joseph star Lee Mead is celebrating the birth of his first child with TV presenter wife Denise Van Outen.

The pair, who married in the Seychelles last year, are “ecstatic” after the birth of their first daughter Betsy, weighing in at 7lb 10oz. The birth comes just over a week before Mead is due to start his role as Fiyero in the smash hit musical Wicked.

The pair first met on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s reality TV show Any Dream Will Do. Outen was a judge on the hit show, whilst Mead won the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Wicked tells the unknown history of the Wicked Witch of the West, turning convention on its head by revealing that perhaps she wasn’t so bad after all. Set mainly before the arrival of Dorothy, Wicked is a brilliant revisionist look at the wonderful world of Oz. The musical is based on the novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory McGuire. The show propelled the career of West End star Kerry Ellis, who has recently taken over the role of Nancy in Oliver!
