Much Ado About Nancy

Posted by Jack on Monday 28th July 2008 at 4:14PM

I’d Do Anything’s winner Jodie Prenger has revealed that she is taking Shakespeare classes at RADA.

Eager to impress in her upcoming West End role, Jodie has been exploring speech and emotion through the work of the Bard at Britain’s most prestigious drama school. Talking to What’s On Stage, Jodie said, “Singing live on Saturday night TV in front of millions of people was not nearly as scary as tackling Shakespeare at RADA.”

Certainly, the playing  Nancy is going to be challenging for Jodie, as she readily admits her inexperience herself, being one of musical theatre’s most highly emotionally charged roles. However, she has thrown herself into the experience she is gaining, and perhaps Miss Prenger has her sights set on something other than musicals once Oliver! has run its course.

RADA is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading establishments for learning the dramatic arts. Founded in 1904 by legendary actor and producer Sir Henry Beerbohm-Tree, RADA’s most notable alumni include Sir John Gielgud, Kenneth Branagh, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, Anthony Hopkins, Glenda Jackson and Lord Attenborough.
