The producers of the Broadway hit The Addams Family have announced that the show will end its run on 31st December 2011 after 725 performances and 34 previews. The musical opened in April 2010, with Jersey Boys co-writers Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman coming up with a script based on cartoonist Charles Addams’ original macabre creations. The current cast includes Brooke Shields as ‘Morticia’, Roger Rees as ‘Gomez’ and Brad Oscar as ‘Uncle Fester’. Brooke Shields recently extended her stay with the show for an additional two months, taking her through to the final New Year’s Eve performance. |
Don’t Ask What’s On the Menu! The Addams Family Musical is set in the present day, with the familiar creepy mansion moved to the middle of New York’s Central Park. Teenager Wednesday is growing up, causing anxiety for her morbid mother Morticia and long-suffering brother Pugsley. When the parents of Wednesday’s new ‘normal’ boyfriend are invited for a dinner party, the clan pull out all the stops to extend the famous Addams’ hospitality. With plenty of gags and black humour on the menu, this is one love story guaranteed to end in pain! International Productions to Open in 2012Like many successful shows before it, The Addams Family opened to mixed reviews from theatre critics but proved a huge hit with audiences - grossing over $1 million in many weeks. Nathan Lane (The Producers) and Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago) provided the star power as ‘Gomez’ and ‘Morticia’, and fans were soon flocking to snap their fingers along to the familiar theme song. The Addams Family will embark on an American tour this autumn, beginning in New Orleans, and will visit more than 30 U.S. cities through 2012. International productions are due to open in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the spring on 2012 and in Sydney, Australia in 2013. The clamour for a West End version will surely become louder, especially with so many British fans of the cartoons and films. |
