Michael Frayn's award-winning comedy Noises Off will transfer to the Novello Theatre in March 2012 following the end of its triumphant run at The Old Vic, where it recently set box office records on the way to becoming the highest grossing show in the Company's history. Lindsay Posner’s production has received several 5-star reviews and been described as London’s funniest play, alongside the National Theatre's hit One Man, Two Guvnors. |

Noises Off will open in the West End on Saturday 24th March 2012 (replacing the romantic musical comedy Crazy for You) and play a limited season until Saturday 30th June 2012. Many of the all-star cast - including Jonathan Coy, Janie Dee, Robert Glenister, Jamie Glover, Celia Imrie, Karl Johnson and Paul Ready - will transfer with the show. Full casting will be announced shortly. A Hilarious Play within a PlayNoises Off premiered at the Lyric Hammersmith in 1982, directed by Michael Blakemore and starring Patricia Routledge amongst the cast. It transferred to the Savoy Theatre, where it ran until 1987 and picked up several awards. The name is inspired by the theatrical term for sounds heard off stage. The first act opens at the dress rehearsal of bawdy sex farce ‘Nothing On’ and sees the cast fumble with missed cues, fluffed lines and troublesome props. The second act takes up the action at a matinee performance one month later, where relations between the actors have soured even further. The third act, close to the end of the play’s run, sees tempers stretched to breaking point and the show desperate to be put out of its misery by the final curtain. |
