Priscilla to Celebrate 1,000 West End Shows!

Posted by Hannah on Friday 2nd September 2011 at 3:59PM

Priscilla Queen of the Desert will celebrate 1,000 West End performances this weekend at the Palace Theatre. The Olivier Award-winning production, which opened at the Shaftesbury Avenue venue in 2009, has become one of the most popular musicals in London - with a crowd-pleasing combination of glittering costumes, outrageous humour and a sensational soundtrack of classic disco anthems. The show recently announced that Home and Away star Ray Meagher (who has played the role of ‘Alf Stewart’ in Summer Bay for over 20 years) will return as kind-hearted mechanic ‘Bob’ in October.

Ray Meagher Returns on 5th October 2011

Ray Meagher

Ray Meagher has enjoyed a hugely successful acting career spanning more than 35 years. His theatre credits include work for Queensland Theatre Company and the Adelaide Festival, whilst his films include Breaker Morant, The Chamberlain Report and Mail Order Bride. He starred in the original Sydney production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, before reprising the role of ‘Bob’ in the West End in September 2010 – the same year that he won the Gold Logie for being the Most Popular Personality on Australian TV!

Final Priscilla Performance - 31st December 2011

Priscilla Queen of the Desert will now play its final West End performance on Saturday 31st December 2011. The cast continues to include Don Gallagher (Bernadette), Richard Grieve (Tick) and Oliver Thornton (Adam/Mitzi) as the glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who embark on the adventure of a lifetime across the Australian outback in a battered old bus christened ‘Priscilla’. The Christmas performance schedule was recently confirmed by the show's producers, with extra matinees added to the week commencing Monday 26th December 2011. Tickets are now on sale.

Priscilla will reach 1,000 West End performances on Saturday 3rd September 2011.
