Ray Meagher Gets Waxed before Rejoining Priscilla!

Australian actor Ray Meagher has been revealed as the first celebrity to get his own waxwork when Madame Tussauds opens in Sydney next May. He joins a host of entertainers, politicians and sports stars at the AUS$14 million tourist attraction, including fellow Aussie’s Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Meagher is one of the most recognisable faces on Australian (and possibly British) television, having played the role of ‘Alf Stewart’ in Home and Away since 1988. He will rejoin the West End cast of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert as mechanic ‘Bob’ on Wednesday 5th October 2011. |
Oz’s Favourite TV PersonalityRay Meagher has starred as ‘Alf Stewart’ since the very first episode of Home and Away. His extensive theatre credits include work for Queensland Theatre Company and the Adelaide Festival, whilst his film credits include Breaker Morant, The Chamberlain Report and Mail Order Bride. He starred in the original Sydney production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, before reprising the role of ‘Bob’ in the London production in September 2010. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert premiered in Sydney in October 2006 before opening in Melbourne and New Zealand, and has become the most successful Australian musical of all time. The West End production opened at the Palace Theatre in March 2009, featuring a £1m scene-stealing bus and 500 outrageous costumes from the film’s Oscar-winning designers Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner. The current cast includes Richard Grieve as ‘Tick’, Oliver Thornton as ‘Adam’ and Don Gallagher as ‘Bernadette’. |
