Rock of Ages Begins Previews Tonight!

Hair metal musical Rock of Ages begins previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre this evening prior to an official opening night on Tuesday 27th September 2011. The show is one of the most keenly anticipated musicals to arrive this year, and is being billed as ‘Spinal Tap Meets Rocky Horror’ with a mix of comedy, romance and sensational '80s rock classics promising a memorable night out in the West End. Set on LA’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in Los Angeles to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. Scorching songs include: Don’t Stop Believin’, We Built This City, The Final Countdown, Wanted Dead or Alive, Here I Go Again, Can’t Fight this Feeling and I Want To Know What Love Is. Justin Lee Collins plays bar owner ‘Dennis Dupree’ with X Factor winner Shayne Ward taking the role of rock bad boy ‘Stacee Jaxx’. |
Supporting the Teenage Cancer TrustThe Teenage Cancer Trust has been chosen as the official charity of Rock of Ages. Music has always been important to the Trust as it plays such a huge part in the lives of young people, especially those suffering through illness. To celebrate the partnership, the Trust has designed some awesome Rock of Ages plectrum keyrings that will be sold at the Shaftesbury Theatre for a limited period as well as through the Charity’s website. The week commencing 19th September 2011 will also be dedicated to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Rock of Ages cast members and volunteers will collect donations at each performance.
