Russell Crowe Will Star in Les Miserables Movie

Russell Crowe has been cast as ‘Inspector Javert’ in the forthcoming Hollywood film version of Les Misérables, according to reports on BroadwayWorld.com. Fellow Australian actor Hugh Jackman has already been confirmed in the role of reformed prisoner ‘Jean Valjean’. On stage, Hugh Jackman won Tony, Desk Drama and Outer Critics Circle Awards for his portrayal of the 1970s singer-songwriter Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz in 2004. His other theatre credits include Oklahoma! at the National Theatre (Olivier Award nomination) and Carousel at Carnegie Hall. On screen, he starred with Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrmann’s epic historical romance, Australia. He is perhaps best known for playing ‘Wolverine’ in the highly successful X-Men franchise. |

Russell Crowe rose to Hollywood fame as police officer Wendell "Bud" White in L.A. Confidential in 1997. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for Gladiator in 2001 after being nominated three years in succession (The Insider, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind). His other films include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Cinderella Man and American Gangster. Although his acting career is not closely associated with musicals, Crowe has been singing with rock bands since the 1980s and has released several albums over the years. |
