Cats the Musical Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group has announced that two of the impresario’s most famous musicals – The Phantom of the Opera and Cats – will be released for schools and colleges to perform to mark the 25th anniversary of Phantom’s West End debut. The sought after licences can be obtained by contacting The Really Useful Group via their website at www.reallyuseful.com/putonashow. Really Useful productions already available include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Sunset Boulevard.

Extraordinary Growth in Musical Interest

Speaking about the release of the two shows, Lloyd Webber said: “No way was either Cats or The Phantom of the Opera written for schools, even if TS Eliot did write his brilliant cat poems for his godchildren. But such is the extraordinary growth of interest in musicals at grass root level all over the world, plus the astonishing capabilities of our younger performers, that now schools, colleges and amateur societies put on productions that give professionals a huge run for their money. I am therefore delighted that Cats and Phantom are available to be performed by schools and colleges for the first time."

Phantom Celebrates 25 Years

Ramin Karimloo as The Phantom The Phantom of the Opera premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in October 1986, starring Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. The show is London’s second-longest running musical after Les Miserablés. There is no finer 19th century auditorium in London than the Royal Albert Hall, which will provide a magnificent setting for the 25th anniversary celebrations on the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October 2011. The lavish, fully staged production sees Ramin Karimloo back in The Mask, with his Love Never Dies co-star Sierra Boggess playing ‘Christine Daaé’.
