The Story of a Doomed Love AffairSet in Elizabethan England, Shakespeare in Love sees Joseph Fiennes play the iconic Bard of Stratford, who is struggling with writers block whilst working on his romantic masterpiece Romeo and Juliet. All his attempts to find a muse have led to frustrating disappointment, until he meets the beautiful noblewoman Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow), who is enthralled with performing and would love to be an actor if only it wasn’t against the law for women to appear on stage. She auditions in disguise and is perfect for the part of Romeo. Soon Shakespeare discovers her true identity and falls head over heels in love. However, he is already married and Viola has been promised to the dour Lord Wessex (Colin Firth), making their passionate romance destined to fail. |
