Sister Act Closure

Posted by Joseph on Friday 30th April 2010 at 3:30PM

After nearly one year in the West End, Sister Act has announced it will shut its convent doors on 1 January 2011.

Cast News

The show, which opened last year, has had a strong cast since opening, with new comer Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, Shelia Hancock in the role of Mother Superior and Dad’s Army favourite Ian Lavender as Monsignor Howard. Miller will continue her role of Deloris until the end of the run, whilst Shelia Hancock has extended her contract by three months and will finish in August.

At the same time of announcing the closure of the show it was also officially confirmed that former Blue member Simon Webbe will be joining the cast from the 31 May 2010 in the role of Shank.

Simon Webbe

On getting the role Webbe commented “I knew from the minute the curtain went up and the band kicked in that this was a show I wanted to be in. The audition process was nerve-wracking of course, but it just made me more determined to get the part. I’ve performed to thousands and thousands of people with Blue, but to be playing this role, on stage at the London Palladium is going to be something else completely, and I’m honoured to be doing it opposite Patina, Sheila and this brilliant company.”

The Show

Sister Act follows Deloris Van Cartier a club singer who is put under police protection in a convent, thinking that is the last place anyone is going to look for her, but Deloris soon becomes centre of attention. She takes on the convents choir who are in desperate need of help and within weeks Deloris is leaving her mark on the nuns, local community and even the pope. The show is full of laughs, cries and tunes that will have you dancing in the aisle.
