Sister Act pushed out early for Dorothy

Posted by Joseph on Tuesday 11th May 2010 at 2:23PM

Sister Act recently announced its closure for January 2011 but has now pushed this forward to October 2010 as the momentum for The Wizard of Oz gains.

Over The Rainbow

The Wizard of Oz, which goes into the Palladium on 29 March 2011, went on sale at the weekend almost 10 months in advance of the first night. The TV show ‘Over The Rainbow’ is close to crowning a winner to play Dorothy in the new Andrew Lloyd Webber production.

The new production of The Wizard of Oz will include the classic favourites made famous by Judy Garland in the 1939 film, including Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road, If I Only Had A Heart and We’re Off To See The Wizard, as well as new songs by Webber.

Sister Act Future

Sister Act producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment have shown interest in either finding a different West End Theatre for the musical or take the show on the road across the UK. New productions are already being planned for Broadway and Germany.

Bill Taylor, CEO of Stage Entertainment, commented: “Forgive the pun but we’ve had a truly heavenly time at the Palladium! It was always the deal with the Really Useful Group that we would leave to make way for The Wizard Of Oz and I want to thank every single person who has been involved in making Sister Act such a success there. It has given us the perfect springboard for launching this uplifting show around the world, establishing Sister Act as a wonderful new musical title with global potential.”
