A Coronation Street musical will open at Manchester’s M.E.N. Arena next year, hosted by Paul O’Grady and featuring many familiar faces, past and present, from Britain’s best-loved soap opera. Street of Dreams has been penned by writer, composer and lyricist Trisha Ward and promises to transform some of Coronation Streets most memorable storylines into all-singing, all-dancing musical numbers inspired by the album Coronation Street – Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools which was released last Christmas for the show’s 50th anniversary, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. |
Stars Return to Relive the MemoriesStreet stars including Julie Goodyear (Bet Lynch), Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts), Brian Capron (Richard Hillman) and William Roche (Ken Barlow) are set to appear, with songs including “Curly's Song - Your Star Shines So Bright” (a tribute to Curly Watts), “He's My Man” (the catfight between Elsie Tanner & Bet Lynch) and “Norman Bates with a Briefcase” (an ode to the show’s number one villain, serial killer Richard Hillman). A 25 piece orchestra will create the music, with choreography by Stephen Mear (Mary Poppins). Paul O’Grady will provide narration, guiding the audience through each momentous moment as the show builds to a dramatic finale. Unforgettable Characters on StageSpeaking about the show, Paul O’Grady said: “I’m a great fan of the Street! I’ve watched it for most of my life. Chunks of script from 30 years ago are engraved in my memory so to relive it all alongside unforgettable characters and talent on the stage, revisiting such iconic scenes from across the years, is just brilliant. I can’t wait to watch it all come together and the reaction it receives.” Street of Dreams will play at Manchester's M.E.N Arena on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd March 2012. |
