The Fantasticks Cast Announced

Posted by Ben on Monday 8th March 2010 at 11:45AM

Off-Broadway hit The Fantasicks will open at the Duchess Theatre this summer. The brand new production, which first played in New York nearly fifty years ago, will feature London stage stalwarts Clive Rowe and David Burt.

Clive Rowe (above) has famously played the pantomime dame for the last seven years at the Hackney Empire. David Burt has featured in numerous Andrew Lloyd Webber productions, including ‘Evita’, ‘Cats’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.

A Story of Forbidden Love

Clive Rowe and David Burt play a pair of feuding fathers, who build a wall between their neighbouring homes. Children always want what their parents forbid, so naturally their offspring fall in love. After the children discover the feud was a sham, they decide to go off and see the world. Will destiny draw them back together?

The Fantastics is based on the novel ‘Les Romanesques’ by Edmond Rostand. The French dramatist is best-known for his late 19th century work ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’, a play based on the life of the big-nosed lover and duellist.

The World’s Longest Running Musical

The Fantasticks is the longest running show in the United States and the longest running musical anywhere in the world. It has played in 67 countries, in over 2,000 cities, since opening off-Broadway in 1960.

Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s classic score features songs including ‘Much More’, ‘I Can See It’ and ‘Try to Remember’.
