The Lion King Reaches 5,000 Performances

Posted by Ben on Tuesday 13th September 2011 at 11:31AM

The Lion King Musical The Lion King will reach its 5,000th performance this evening at the Lyceum Theatre. The milestone has been reached 12 years after the show opened in the West End (back in October 1999) and is a huge credit to the large cast and production team who have managed to keep the musical as fresh and vibrant today as it was on opening night. The special effects and puppets dazzle from the very first scene - where the African Savannah is brought to life with antelope, giraffes, birds and elephants filling the stage.

A Wonderful Family Musical

The story of The Lion King is faithful to Disney’s wonderful animated film (soon to be released in 3D) that tells the story of a young lion cub named Simba who is cast out into the wilderness by the treachery of his wicked uncle, Scar. Things look bleak for our young hero until he stumbles on a couple of new friends - Timon the Meerkat and Pumba the Warthog - who keep him safe until the day he returns to confront Scar and claim his rightful position as King of the Pride. Elton John and Tim Rice’s memorable score includes the songs The Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata and Can You Feel the Love Tonight.
