The Little Dog Laughed & So Did We
The Tony Award nominated comedy The Little Dog Laughed, currently at the Garrick Theatre invited UKTickets along to see what we thought of the new play. |
Celebrity Status
| The show consists of just four actors including Rupert Friend, best known for his roles in Young Victoria, Pride and Prejudice and boyfriend to actress Keira Knightley, alongside bond and St. Trinians girl Gemma Arterton. Tamsin Greig best known for her roles in The Archers and Green Wing also stars alongside Harry Lloyd. |
The Play
Friend plays rising star Mitchell Green who is every girl's fantasy and soon to become a household name, thanks to his devilish agent Diane (Greig), who excels at navigating the choppy waters of Hollywood. With Mitchell on the brink of superstardom, Diane encounters one tiny obstacle; she can’t seem to stop her leading man from coming out of the closet. With Mitchell spending days and nights with his new 'friend' Alex (Lloyd), and Alex’s beautiful girlfriend Ellen (Arterton) causing a drama of her own, Diane has her work cut out. |
Did the little dog laugh?
![]() | Being a new play the atmosphere when walking into the theatre was very different to a normal play setting, with music blasting out whilst the audience waited for the play to start. The play opens to an even stranger beginning, with Diane interacting with the audience in an almost pantomime feel, which at first seems unusual for a West End play, but this approach worked effectively and got the audience laughing and engaged. Friend and Greig gave outstanding performances, with Greig’s character Diane giving the audience a laugh a minute with one pinnacle line that is just a little to below the belt to mention here. Friend acted his role as closet gay actor Mitchell extremely well with a humorous yet heart melting twist, no one in the audience could fail to like him, with some very funny and touching moments between him and his co-star Lloyd’s character Alex. Cleverly written and irresistibly funny, this play is mainly suited to adults but will appeal to anyone who likes a modern day comedy. |
