The Mousetrap Celebrates 60 Years in the West End!

Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap celebrates its 60th West End anniversary today at the St Martin’s Theatre, the home to the show since 1974. The 60th year sign will be illuminated tonight outside the venue as Theatreland pays tribute to the record-breaking whodunit. |

To mark the milestone, a new production with an all-star cast will begin a 60-week tour from the Marlow Theatre in Canterbury on Tuesday 11th September 2012. It will be the first time the show has been fully staged in the UK outside of London since its pre-West End tour with Richard Attenborough and Shiela Sim in 1952. In addition, performance rights are also being licensed for 60 productionss around the world for a limited period. A 60p charity fee will also be added to Mousetrap London Tickets, which will be given to organisations working with children and the arts. The Classic Murder MysterySet in the post-war period, The Mousetrap tells the story of a small group of strangers who find themselves snowed in at a remote guest house when a police detective arrives on the trail of a murderer. After one of the guests is strangled to death, it becomes disturbingly clear that the killer could be amongst them. Soon each character is scrutinized and suspected as tempers fray, tensions rise and a plot to entrap the suspect leads to a dramatic twist ending. The audience are sworn to secrecy at the end of each performance, adding to the play’s tradition and longevity. The Mousetrap at 60 Facts:During the phenomenal 60 year run there have been no fewer than 382 actors and actresses appearing in the play, 116 miles of shirts have been ironed and over 415 tons of ice cream sold. Some cast members are in the Guinness Book of Records - David Raven as the 'Most Durable Actor' for 4,575 performances as Major Metcalf and the late Nancy Seabrooke for a record breaking 15 years as an understudy! |
