Waiting for Godot Returns in 2010

Posted by Ben on Monday 7th December 2009 at 11:34AM

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, starring Sir Ian McKellen, returns to the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 21 January 2010.  After a break of several months, producers have announced that Director Sean Mathias’s version of the play will reopen, with actors Roger Rees and Matthew Kelly joining Sir Ian McKellen and Ronald Pickup.

Second Chance to See Excellent Production

Simon Callow and Sir Patrick Stewart may be missing from the original cast but the production, which was one of the hottest tickets in 2009, will surely pick up from where it left off. If you missed it the first time - be sure to take your chance now. Waiting for Godot replaces current Theatre Royal Haymarket production Breakfast at Tiffany’s starring Anna Friel.

Beckett’s Compelling Tragicomedy

Two friends meet on a country road and wait expectantly for the arrival of the mysterious Godot. Two days pass with no sign of their acquaintance. To occupy themselves the men eat, clown, play games and bicker. Beckett’s tragicomedy is a unique masterpiece, philosophical and minimalist, but utterly compelling.

Rees and Kelly’s Performance Experience

Roger Rees has performed extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company and won both Lawrence Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor on Broadway. Matthew Kelly has worked widely in both theatre and television, winning a Royal Television Society award for Best Performer in the ITV drama ‘Cold Blood’.

Cast:
Sir Ian McKellen – Estragon
Ronald Pickup - Lucky
Matthew Kelly – Pozzo
Roger Rees - Vladimir

Directed by: Sean Mathias
