A number of West End stars lit up the Royal Variety Performance, which was broadcast by the BBC last night.

Soon-to-be 'Wizard of Oz' Michael Crawford (accompanied by a canine companion) introduced new star Danielle Hope, who performed the show's iconic ballad 'Over the Rainbow'.

Crawford revealed how delighted he was to be back at the London Palladium in the Wizard of Oz, saying: "I spent a wonderful two years here playing the title role in the musical Barnum. I was such a hit that twenty nine and a half years later they've invited me back!"

Later in the show, Alfie Boe (pictured below), Colm Wilkinson, John Owen-Jones and Simon Bowman were joined by Samantha Barks (currently playing 'Eponine') and the Les Miserables company for a medley of the musical's famous songs.

The final number, Bring Him Home, was performed by the four actors (who are all connected with the leading role of Jean Valjean). The song has been released via iTunes, and in music stores, with proceeds going to the forces charity - Tickets for Troops.
