Madame Tussauds

Sections:
Marie Tussaud first arrived in London in 1802 and took her exhibition of celebrity waxworks on a tour of the UK and Ireland. On her return to London, her sculptures were displayed in a number of different venues including at one stage the Lyceum Theatre. She eventually showed the exhibition at the her own premises, with the first Madame Tussauds museum and Chamber of Horrors actually being the ground floor of her Baker Street home. With the expansion of the collection and the number of visitors, Madame Tussauds’ current Marylebone Road location was specially commissioned in 1883 by Tussauds’ grandson and was open to the public the following year.
Incorporating what was once the London Planetarium, the Madame Tussauds building now houses Scream, the 21st century’s answer to Marie Tussaud’s original Chamber of Horrors, and Stardome, an animation spectacular by the award winning Aardman team alongside the ever expanding collection of waxworks.
Madame Tussauds is open from 9:30am to 5:30pm every day of the year except for Christmas day.
